City Hearts

Providing love, value and acceptance

The 4 Stages to Success

The City Hearts Programme is designed to equip women with self awareness, life skills and personal and relational confidence and development. The programme is divided into 4 Levels which each woman must work through in order to graduate. . The flexible structure of the programme allows each woman to progress at her own pace.

Level Outline

At each level we address the following areas of need:
1) Emotional / Psychological Development
2) Practical Development
3) Social Development
4) Relational Development

Stage 1 - the Initial Phase (8 week block)

Deals with the following: Detoxing (if coping with addictions), Personal care (including: Doctors, GU Clinic, Housing Benefits, Personal Finance). As well as these practical issues, Stage 1 is about dealing with basic life issues, life skills and self discovery. The aim is to start each girl on their personal road to recovery and help them to begin to develop in each of the above mentioned areas.

Stage 2 - the Intermediate Phase (8 week block)

This stage aims to build on the successes each girl has made in the previous stage and to help develop the personal, practical, social and relational areas of her life. Here the same areas will be covered as in Stage 1 but in more depth and with more room for growth in the areas that are of particular interest to each girl. More life skills are available and mentoring and work experience play a key role in helping build confidence and security at this level.

Life Issues: One-to-one sessions relating to each individual girl's life issue (x1 session per week).
Self Discovery: Group sessions discussing topics including: coping mechanisms, power/control, anxiety management, dealing with success and failure, choices, and insecurity. Life Skills: Developing some of the following skills: cooking, arts + crafts, music, IT skills, basic maths, basic English, confidence, media.

Spiritual Growth: Group sessions dealing with the following topics: The Father Heart of God, Victory, Women in the Bible, Temptation, Fruits of the Spirit.

Stage 3 - the Increase Phase (8 week block)

In Stage 3 we are looking for each girl to increase in every area of her life, to grow in confidence, in how she relates to others and in her expectation of her life and her future. The relational/social aspect of their world is vital in this stage, as this determines how they will survive in the real world. This phase is to get them ready for Stage 4 where they will have a lot more independence and will be either working or studying and moving towards their ultimate goal of living free of the issues that have held them back in life so far. Life skills, mentoring and work experience all play a vital role at this stage.

Life Issues: One-to-one sessions relating to each individual girl's life issue (x 1 session per week)
Self Discovery: Group sessions discussing topics including: behaviour and attitudes, success, responsibility, communication, consequences.
Health + Nutrition: Group sessions and one-to-one planning covering the following areas: fitness plan, beauty sessions, eating plan, first aid course.
Life Skills: Developing some of the following skills: Building on those in previous stages, coping with stress and pressure, money management, child development.
Work Experience: Working with a team leader at the Megacentre at least two afternoons a week in an area of interest to them. Includes: youth work, community work, events planning, media, conferencing, children's work.
Relationships: Group and one-to-one sessions including: maturing relationships, friendships, dealing with loss, working relationships.
Spiritual Growth: Group sessions dealing with the following topics: dreams and goals, destiny and purpose, character and integrity, happiness and contentment.

Stage 4 - the Independent Phase (3-6 months)

In Stage 4 the girls are living in the Next Level House where their programme is unique to them and they should be either working or studying for most of their week. This phase of their development is supported mainly through mentoring - each girl should have the same mentor throughout the entire time they are in the programme and so at this stage the relationship should be strong and have lot of trust. Group based sessions are still available to them where needed and that fit in with their work/study. Counselling will also be available to them if they still need it at this time. The length of time spent in this stage varies as to each girl's individual progress. How they cope with more independence and what they want for their future are the biggest issues here.

Health + Nutrition: Individual Fitness Programme, designed to keep the girls healthy after they leave the programme.
Life Skills: time management, money management, running a home, various other courses depending on the needs/desires of each girl.
Career Advice/Work: Individual support for getting into work and studying. Continuing support in their job/studies.
Future Planning: One-to-One time with their Mentor or Project Manager to determine where each girl would like to go next. Looking at housing, location, work, family, future.
