City Hearts
City Hearts is a residential programme for women overcoming serious life issues such as drug and alcohol addictions, self harm, unplanned pregnancies, depression and eating disorders. The project also provides a refuge for women coming out of prostitution and exploitation.
Summer Updates 2010
What an incredible time we are having over the summer so far here at City Hearts, with plenty going on to keep us busy. Over the past couple of months we have had everything from events and fundraisers to new girls in the programme and new volunteers, as well as help and support from some new businesses across the city. As a charity we are incredibly grateful to all of our supporters, you make a huge difference.
Our big event was of course the Captivating Fashion Show which raised funds for the charity as well as raising the profile of City Hearts in Sheffield. We are so glad we teamed up with Katrina Bagshaw from Bravura, it was well worth it. There are so many people to thank I hardly know where to start! Thank you to all of our sponsors, especially our headline sponsor Autosave, and to all of the retailers, for Natasha Lyons Styling and Conrad Blandford Hairdressing. We were so privileged to have the ICE Dance Group as well as the beautiful Sophie May. Then there are all of the models, the volunteers and of course the Sheffield City Hall who supported us throughout the entire event. If you were there we hope you enjoyed the night. If not don't worry there's always next year!
We also made the move to extend our residential facilities in Sheffield to be able to house up to 20 young women at a time and by September we will have extended further to be able to house up to 30 women. The need is so great that there simply aren't enough places in residential rehabilitations like City Hearts, so what else can we do but expand? We have been working hard on strengthening our staff and volunteer base as well as bringing in expertise and experience to ensure we offer the best possible service for the young women in our care.
We are continuing to connect with many young women through our weekly Drop In and seeing hope restored to their lives makes it all worthwhile. Thank you to all of our volunteers who are helping to bring dignity, respect and value back to these women, you make a huge difference.
Once again the local business community has got behind the charity by sponsoring the Captivating Fashion Show and also by providing training to some of our girls in developing volunteer and work experience opportunities. Fiona Jagger from The IT Trainer who organised the 40 mile walk earlier this year, continued the theme with the Walk A Mile fundraising event at Barclays Bank just a few weeks ago. This again raised much needed finance and profile for the charity right in the heart of the city centre. If you think you've missed out on getting involved then fear not! Fiona is organising another walk, the Sheffield Round Walk in September. Please sign up for that, you can get fit and support City Hearts at the same time!
So I'd like to say a huge thank you on behalf of all the young women who are currently in the programme and those who we are yet to meet. If you know anyone who is experiencing any of the issues seen on our website and you think we can help, then please download an application form today. They really can get their life back.
